Help - newborn won't sleep during the day

We're on day 8 home from the hospital and my little guy is great at night (maybe 4-5 hour stretches) but during the day he's basically awake all the time. Is this normal? My wife is exhausted and so am I. Every guide online says something different. Do we need blackout curtains? White noise? Are we doing something wrong already?

That day sleep thing is brutal but totally normal at that stage. The good news is your nights are solid, which means you're doing something right.

Day 8 is still early, hang in there. Some newborns are just wired to be awake during the day, but it should start leveling out soon. You're doing fine.
