How much should a newborn actually sleep?
Our son is 3 weeks old and I swear he's only sleeping like 12-14 hours a day total. I read somewhere it should be more like 16-17 hours. Is he getting enough? Should we be worried? He eats every 3-4 hours and seems alert when he's awake. My wife says I'm overthinking it but I'm genuinely nervous we're doing something wrong.
Every baby is different. My son was sleeping like 16-18 hours at that age and I thought something was wrong. Pediatrician said he was just a sleepy baby. Have you talked to your doctor about your concerns?
The thing about 3 weeks is that they're all over the place with their schedules. Some days more sleep, some days less. Once you hit like 8-12 weeks it starts becoming more predictable.
