Is diaper blowout at the grocery store a rite of passage?

Took my 8 week old daughter to Whole Foods for 20 minutes and she absolutely destroyed her diaper. Exploded up her back, down her legs, it was everywhere. I had one extra onesie in the car but nothing else. Ended up changing her on the bathroom counter, threw away the dirty clothes, and had to go back to the car in my t-shirt and the backup onesie tied around her lower half like some kind of makeshift diaper. Bought nothing and left. My wife laughed at me for like an hour when I got home.
