My newborn won't sleep unless I'm holding him

We brought our son home 3 weeks ago and he's basically attached to me. The second I put him down in the bassinet he screams. Doctor says he's healthy and fed but he just wants to be held. I love the bonding but I'm also exhausted and my wife needs help with our 2yo. Is this normal? How long does this phase last? I've read a million articles and they all say different things. Just need to know if I'm doing something wrong or if this is just newborn life.

The sleep deprivation is probably making this feel worse than it is. At least you get cuddles out of it? My second was like this too and honestly I kind of miss those early days now that she's 4 and wants nothing to do with me.

This is completely normal at 3 weeks. Your son basically just spent 9 months attached to you in a very literal way. He'll eventually be okay in the bassinet or crib. In the meantime, consider contact napping as your new hobby. I read entire books holding my kid.

Oh man, you're in the trenches right now. Mine did the exact same thing at 3 weeks. Honestly it gets better but those early weeks are rough. The contact napping is real and it's exhausting. You're doing fine though, even when it doesn't feel like it.
