My newborn won't sleep unless I'm holding him

Been dealing with this for 3 weeks now. The second I put him down in the bassinet he cries. My wife is exhausted, I'm exhausted. Is this normal or are we doing something wrong? Everyone keeps saying he'll grow out of it but I'm going insane. Any tips from you guys who've been through this?

Totally normal, man. Jay here and I'm 6 weeks in now - my kid was the same way those first few weeks. The contact sleeping is real but it does get better. Have you tried warming up the bassinet with a heating pad before you put him down?

This was our life for the first month too. It's tough but you're doing great just by being aware and trying to figure it out. Maybe take shifts with your wife so you can each get solid blocks of sleep?
