My newborn won't sleep unless I'm holding him

We're on day 8 and this kid will not stay asleep in the bassinet. The second I put him down his eyes pop open and he starts fussing. I've been running on like 45 minutes of sleep because I'm paranoid about dropping him while I doze off. My wife suggested contact naps are normal but I'm losing my mind. When does this phase end? Anyone else been through this?

That's totally normal at day 8, man. My son was the exact same way. It gets better, I promise. The contact naps are exhausting but they pass quick.

Yeah day 8 is rough. You're doing great just holding him and letting him sleep on you. This stage won't last forever even though it feels eternal right now.

Welcome to the newborn phase! Hang in there, this is just the beginning and it gets easier. Try to rest when he rests if you can.
