My newborn won't sleep unless I'm holding him
We're 3 weeks in and my son will only sleep if I'm holding him. The second I put him down in the bassinet he wakes up and cries. My wife keeps saying this is normal but I'm exhausted. I work full time and I'm barely functional. Is there anything we can do to help him sleep independently or do we just have to wait this out? Also how long does this phase usually last because I can't keep doing this every single night.
This is totally normal newborn behavior. They want to hear your heartbeat and feel safe. It does pass but for now just accept that you're basically a human pacifier. I wore mine in a carrier for hours because at least my hands were free.
