My newborn won't sleep unless I'm holding him. Is this normal?

So my son is 3 weeks old and the second I put him down in the bassinet he starts crying. My wife says I'm creating a bad habit but I don't want to let him cry it out at this age. He sleeps great on my chest though. Are we doing something wrong or is this just what newborns do? Any other dads dealing with this?

Totally normal at 3 weeks. Your son literally just left the warmth and comfort of the womb. Holding him isn't creating a bad habit, it's meeting his needs. The sleep stuff will come, trust me.

Don't stress about the habit thing yet. My newborn was the same way and we just rode it out. Around 3-4 months things started clicking on their own. Enjoy the holding phase while it lasts because they grow too fast.
