Newborn won't sleep unless being held - is this normal?

We're 2 weeks in and my baby boy will only sleep if one of us is holding him. The second we try to put him down in the bassinet he wakes up screaming. My wife is exhausted and I keep taking shifts so she can get rest but I'm worried we're creating some kind of bad habit. Do all newborns do this or did we get unlucky?

This was our life for the first month. Have you tried those contact nap positions where they're on your chest? We used a boppy pillow to make it more comfortable for longer stretches.

Totally normal at 2 weeks. Mine was the same way. The contact sleeping eventually stopped around 3-4 months but those early weeks we just accepted it. Get yourself comfortable and try to enjoy it honestly - it goes so fast.

Yep, this is the newborn life. Try to nap when baby naps like everyone says. It sucks at first but I promise this phase ends and you'll kind of miss it.
