Newborn won't sleep unless held, am I doing something wrong?

My daughter is 2 weeks old and she absolutely will not stay asleep in the bassinet. The second I try to put her down she wakes up screaming. I've tried warming the mattress, white noise, swaddling, everything I read online. My wife is exhausted and I'm taking night shifts but I'm basically awake 6 hours straight every night just holding her. Is this normal or should I be worried? How long does this phase last?

Man, you're not doing anything wrong. My daughter did the exact same thing at 2 weeks. Turns out they just want to feel safe and close to you, and that's totally normal. The bassinet stuff gets easier, just takes time.

You're running on fumes right now and that's okay. I remember those early days thinking I was failing because she wouldn't sleep anywhere but on me. Hang in there, it really does get better.
