Our son is 3 weeks old and literally screams the moment we put him down. I've tried everything. Swaddling, white noise, warming the bassinet. My wife and I are passing him back and forth like a hot potato at 3am. The lactation consultant said some babies are just high needs but this seems excessive. Are we doing something wrong or does this get better? Sleep deprivation is real.

The swaddling thing helps but at 3 weeks, holding is kind of the main move. It's exhausting I know, but this phase passes faster than it feels like it will. White noise and motion helped us a ton too.
Totally normal at 3 weeks. Your kid literally just got evicted from the most secure environment possible. Being held IS the solution right now, not something to work around. You're doing everything right.
Three weeks is super early. That's pretty normal behavior honestly. He feels safe being held because you're warm and you've got a heartbeat and you smell familiar. It'll get easier around 8-12 weeks when his nervous system settles down a bit.

Bath time with my little one actually made a difference for us. Warm water, quiet time, helped him settle. Worth a shot.
