Considering dropping $300 on one of these for our newborn coming in 6 weeks. I know I'm being that anxious first-time dad but honestly the anxiety about SIDS is killing me. Has anyone used it? Is it actually reassuring or does it just create more stress with false alarms?
First time dad anxiety is 100% real and valid but that $300 might be better spent on a solid bassinet setup that keeps the baby close. Proximity is what actually helps anxiety + prevents SIDS.
SIDS anxiety is legitimate but Owlet got pulled from the market for a bit because FDA said there's no actual evidence it prevents SIDS. The sleep tracking is fine but don't get it thinking it's a safety net - normal crib safeguards matter more.
The fact that you're thinking about safe sleep setup this early already puts you ahead. That's the real thing that matters. Owlet is more of a comfort purchase for anxious dads (fair enough) but it's not the safety thing it was marketed as.

We got one with our first and it was way more anxiety-inducing than calming. Every time the data shifted weird we'd freak out. Better to just keep the bassinet next to you.
