Our 11-month-old got his first real cold last week and watching him struggle to breathe through his nose while trying to eat was the worst. Got a Levoit humidifier (about $40) and the difference is NIGHT and day. He sleeps better, breathes better, wakes up less. If you have a winter baby or live somewhere dry, don't sleep on this. Seriously. Also saline drops and the nose frida are your friends.
Seriously underrated advice. Our humidifier ran basically 24/7 from October through March once we had kids. The difference in nighttime coughing was actually huge.
Get the ones with the cool mist option too, warm mist feels safer but cool mist actually works better for cough suppression. Learned this the hard way after spending money on both.
Also get a good one, not the dollar store ones. The cheap ones break or get moldy. We spent like 80 bucks on a Levoit and it lasted through three kids.
The saline drops and a bulb syringe are your friends too if you haven't gotten those yet. Humidifier helps but you still gotta clear the snot out.
