Son won't sleep unless I'm holding him

My 6 week old will literally only sleep if I'm holding him. The second I try to put him down in the bassinet he wakes up screaming. I've tried everything - waiting til he's fully asleep, warming the bassinet, white noise, nothing works. My wife is exhausted and I'm basically a human pacifier at this point. Anyone else dealing with this? Does it get better or am I just gonna be holding a baby for the next 18 years?

Welcome to parenthood haha. I remember those days with my oldest. White noise machine and swaddling were game changers for us. Also napping while he napped saved my sanity.

That's totally normal at 6 weeks. Both my kids did the same thing. It gets easier once they get a bit older and you can get some sleep yourself. Hang in there.

I feel you. Those early weeks are rough when they just want to be held constantly. The good news is it doesn't last forever. In the meantime, at least you get some good bonding time.

The fourth trimester is real. Your son isn't being difficult, he just knows you're safe. Have you tried warming up the crib sheet with a heating pad before you put him down? Sometimes the temperature change wakes them up.

Mine did the same thing at that age. Honestly I just accepted it for like 3 months. He's 2 now and sleeps in his crib no problem. It feels endless when you're in it but this phase does pass. Hang in there.
