My boy is 3 weeks old and will only sleep if he's on my chest. The second I try to put him down in the bassinet he screams. My wife says this is normal but I'm worried I'm creating bad habits. Anyone else dealing with this? I love the cuddles but I also need to sleep lol.
Totally normal but yeah, it's brutal when you can't put him down. We used a heating pad in the bassinet to make it warmer and that helped a little bit. Still not as good as chest sleeping but it made the transition easier over time.
It's called the fourth trimester for a reason. Your son is probably just trying to feel secure and your heartbeat is doing a lot of the heavy lifting there. Don't try to force independence this early. He'll get there naturally and you won't regret those early contact naps once you're past them.
Man, 3 weeks in and you're already thinking about solutions. That's pretty normal behavior at that age. The contact napping thing is real and honestly it's not forever, though I know it feels endless when you're in the middle of it. You're doing the right thing though, just letting him be where he needs to be.
Hang in there. This is genuinely one of the harder parts of month 1 and 2 but it does pass. I remember being exhausted but also oddly content just holding my son and watching him sleep. You're not creating bad habits, you're meeting his very real needs right now.
Three weeks old and sleeping on your chest is completely normal. My boy did the exact same thing. It's called contact sleeping and honestly it's instinct for them at that age. The hard part is eventually transitioning him, but you're doing everything right.
This is the newborn life right here. He's tiny and wants to be close to you, which is actually a good sign. Just survive these early weeks however you can.
Welcome to the club of dads who haven't slept in weeks. It gets better, I promise. Around 8-12 weeks most babies can start sleeping on their own a bit longer.

Completely normal. My boy was exactly the same at 3 weeks. Spent most of my first month as a couch potato with him on my chest. The hardest part is not panicking about it. Once I stopped thinking I was doing something wrong, it got easier. Around 8-10 weeks it started changing.
