Son won't sleep unless I'm holding him - normal or am I doing something wrong?

My boy is 6 weeks old and the second I put him down he starts crying. Wife says this is normal but I feel like I'm failing at something. We've tried the bassinet, the crib, even the rock n play. The only way he'll actually sleep is if I'm holding him. Is this just how newborns are or should I be doing something different? Getting exhausted here man.

That's totally normal at 6 weeks. My son was the same way and it used to drive me crazy till I realized he just needed the contact. It doesn't last forever, I promise.

You're not failing at all, that's just how newborns are wired. They want to be held and that's okay. Enjoy the cuddles because honestly it goes fast and eventually they don't want you holding them anymore.
