My son has been swaddled since birth and he LOVES it. But he's starting to roll and I know we need to transition soon. Some people say start at 3 months, some say wait longer. He's 3 months now. Do we go cold turkey or gradually? What was your experience?
3 months is reasonable to START thinking about it but you can wait til closer to 4-5 months if he's not rolling super aggressively yet. The rolling is the real trigger, not the age
One arm out for 3-4 days, then both arms out, then just sleep sack for a few weeks. That's the gentlest transition we found. Full swaddle to nothing overnight is rough
We transitioned one arm at a time around 3.5 months and it was way easier than going cold turkey. Let him adjust gradually
If he's already rolling during swaddle time that's your sign to start NOW. Swaddled babies rolling is a SIDS risk so don't wait for some magic age - watch the behavior instead

The transition sucks for like 2 weeks then they're fine. We waited too long and it was brutal. Just bite the bullet now while he's still young enough to adapt quick
