When did you transition baby to crib in their own room?

We're still doing bassinet in our room but our pediatrician said we should be thinking about moving him to his own room around 6 months. I'm honestly nervous about this. How do I know he's okay? Does anyone use those monitors with the cameras and oxygen sensors or is that overkill? My wife thinks I'm being paranoid but I just want to make sure he's breathing. What did you guys do and did you feel comfortable with it?
