When did your baby smile for real?

My wife keeps insisting our 6 week old smiled at her yesterday but I think it was just gas. I've heard real smiles come around 8-12 weeks. Not trying to be a jerk but I don't want her getting her hopes up. Anyone else deal with this? When did you get that first confirmed real smile from your little one?
