My boy is 8 weeks old and honestly I'm waiting for that moment where he actually knows who I am. Right now he just kind of looks through me like I'm furniture. My friends keep saying wait til he smiles at you, it changes everything. When did that happen for you guys? I want so badly for him to actually acknowledge me. My wife gets the most eye contact so I'm a little jealous. Is this normal?
Week 10 for us. It's like a switch flips. Suddenly he stops screaming at my face at 3am and actually seems glad to see me. The social smile is coming, hang in there.
My daughter didn't really smile at me until like 10 or 11 weeks, and man when it happened it was worth the wait. 8 weeks is still early, you're doing fine. He's gonna have that moment soon where you catch him looking at you differently and you'll just know.
Right around 8-12 weeks is when it typically starts. My boy is 9 weeks now and I swear I've seen a couple smiles this week, though my wife says I'm reading too much into gas smiles. But I'm choosing to believe he already knows his old man is the best.

The waiting is the hardest part but also kind of magical. You're locked in with him right now even if he doesn't know it yet. Those 8 weeks are building your bond even if he can't smile about it.
