My 6 week old boy has been doing these little smiles but I can't tell if they're real or just gas. My mom says he's definitely smiling at me on purpose but I don't want to get my hopes up. When did your kids start with real responsive smiles? This milestone stuff is weird because you can't really tell what's what.
Real smiles usually show up around 8 weeks or so but every kid is different. The gas smiles are cute too though. Before you know it he'll be grinning at you and you'll wonder where the time went. Enjoy this stage even if you're not sure what's real yet.
At 6 weeks it's still tough to tell. Real smiles usually come around 8-12 weeks. But honestly even if it's just gas smiles, enjoy them anyway. They get more intentional before you know it and you'll want to remember these early days.

Probably still mostly gas at 6 weeks but keep watching. When they start smiling at your face on purpose it's the best thing ever. You'll know when it happens. For now just soak it all in.
