When did your kid smile for real for the first time?

My son is 6 weeks old and I swear he smiled at me yesterday but my wife says it was probably just gas. So now Im obsessed with trying to make him smile again to prove it was real. Is 6 weeks too early or could he actually be smiling? This is way more exciting than I thought parenthood would be honestly.

6 weeks is still pretty early for genuine smiles. Keep watching though because when they happen for real it's a totally different vibe. You'll know the difference once you see it.

My son was around 8 weeks when we got the first real smile. It was unmistakable once it happened. Those early weeks are still amazing even without the smiles though.

That's the gas smile stage but honestly those early grins feel real enough to me. Real smiles usually start showing up more consistently around 8 weeks. The fact that you're paying close attention means you'll definitely catch it when it happens for real.
