When does it feel real?

We're expecting our first in about 6 weeks and I keep having this weird disconnect like it's not actually happening yet. Everyone keeps asking if I'm excited and I am but it also feels abstract. Like I know logically a baby is coming to my house and will be my responsibility but it hasn't really clicked emotionally yet. Anyone else feel this way before their first was born?

It feels real when you're in the hospital room. Before that it's kind of theoretical even though intellectually you know it's happening. Trust me, that feeling changes instantly.

Totally normal. I felt the same way at 6 weeks out. Then you hold them and something just clicks. The disconnect disappears pretty fast once they're actually here.

Six weeks is when it started feeling real for me - hearing the heartbeat at appointments helped. But yeah the full weight of it doesn't hit until they're actually in your arms.
