First time dad here and my son sounds like a little pig when he sleeps. He grunts and strains every few minutes and it's keeping me up even more than the actual feedings. Is this normal? Should I be worried or is this just something babies do? My wife says he's fine but I keep checking to make sure he's still breathing lol
Welcome to the club. Two weeks in and yeah, the grunting is totally normal. Our son did the exact same thing - sounded like he was bench pressing in his sleep. Drove us nuts at first but the pediatrician said it's just how newborns are.
Sounds like normal newborn stuff to me. They're basically little animals learning how their bodies work. The pig noises go away eventually. You're probably not getting much sleep anyway so at least you can obsess over it in the middle of the night like the rest of us.
That's completely normal, man. Newborns grunt like crazy at night. Their digestive systems are still getting the hang of things. As long as he's eating okay and has wet diapers, you're good. The grunting gets better in a few weeks.
Mine does this too and it freaked me out at first. Thought something was wrong. The pediatrician said it's just them working through gas and getting used to breathing and digesting. Doesn't mean he's in pain. Still annoying when you're trying to sleep though lol

The piggy sounds are one of those things nobody warns you about. Heads up though - if he's also straining hard and seems constipated, that's something to mention to your doctor. But if he's just grunting and sleeping fine, totally normal newborn stuff.
Oh man, you're describing exactly what I'm dealing with at 3 weeks. It's wild how loud these tiny creatures can be. I thought something was wrong at first but it's just them working out their digestive systems. Hang in there, it does get quieter.
