5 weeks old, sounds like a little piglet especially at night. Pediatrician said it's normal (still developing digestive system or whatever) but it's so weird. He's not in pain or anything, just... constantly making sounds. Does this eventually stop? It's kind of freaking me out.

Yep totally normal. They're basically just figuring out how to coordinate their whole body. The grunting phase is actually shorter than it feels when you're in it at 2am on your 4th coffee
the digestive thing is real - he's learning to pass gas without panicking about it apparently. sounds weird to type but the grunting usually means he's actually handling his business fine
Yeah the grunting phase is SO weird. Mine did this and sounded like a tiny angry old man. Lasted like 6-8 weeks and then just... stopped. Your pediatrician's right, it's just him figuring out his own body. Doesn't make it less unsettling at 3am though.
It's so normal but yeah it's WEIRD as a first time parent. You'll get through this and then miss the easy newborn phase when he's a teenager. Wait till he's 5 and arguing with you about logic.
5 weeks and grunting constantly is pretty normal, but man does it freak you out at 3am when you're already running on fumes. The piglet sounds hit different when you're a new parent
ours did this for like 8 weeks and I was convinced something was wrong even though the doc said it wasn't. he legit sounded like he was bench pressing in his crib. it stops pretty suddenly once his system figures itself out

The piglet comparison is perfect lol. 5 weeks old is peak weird sounds phase. He's also probably working through gas and his digestive system is legitimately still developing. White noise helped us because then you're not hyperaware of every single grunt.
