Been thinking about converting half my garage into a small workshop. Nothing crazy, just some basics to make small stuff. Cutting boards, maybe a toy box for the kids. Space isn't huge and I'm totally new to this. What's the bare minimum investment to not suck at this? Any recommendations on where to start without blowing 2 grand right away?
Converting half the garage is the move. I did this two years ago and honestly best decision I made. Start with a decent workbench, some basic hand tools, and a miter saw. You don't need much to get started but make sure you've got good lighting.
What kind of projects are you thinking about making? That'll help determine what tools you actually need versus what's just nice to have.
Just make sure you talk to your wife first about losing that garage space. My buddy did this and his wife was not thrilled about the sacrifice. That said, if she's on board, it's an amazing outlet for stress relief.

My buddy got into woodworking last year and won't shut up about it now. Says it's the perfect way to decompress after dealing with work and kids all day. Sounds like a solid plan honestly.
