Anyone else attempt a bathroom tile project without knowing what you're doing?

So I wanted to replace the tiles around the bathroom sink and watched like 5 YouTube videos. Ripped out the old tile, got the backing board ready, and started laying new ones. Grout lines are not as even as I wanted but it looks way better than before. My wife said it's fine but I know she's being nice. Would I do it again? Probably not. Would I pay someone next time? Definitely.

This is peak dad energy. We've all been there. The grout work is what gets most people. If you're going to try again, go slow on that part and maybe watch one more video just about grouting technique specifically.

Oh man, yeah. I did this exact thing two years ago. Pro tip for next time: rent a tile wet saw instead of trying to cut them by hand. Also grouting sucks worse than removal. How bad's the damage?

Five YouTube videos and still not enough apparently, right? The gap between watching something and actually doing it is wild. At least you tried though. That's half the battle with these projects.

Haha sounds like you went full send on that project. Did you end up finishing the grout or are you still staring at it? Either way respect for trying, those YouTube tutorials make it look way easier than it is.

Man, I respect the DIY energy but weekends are precious with three kids. Just make sure you got enough time to finish before family stuff calls, otherwise you're living with half-done tiles for weeks.

Five YouTube videos sounds about right for going in blind. My bathroom looked rough after my first attempt too. The good news is bathroom mistakes usually aren't too expensive to fix and you learn a lot for next time.

How bad did it actually turn out? I feel like half the DIY projects we attempt as dads end up looking better than expected even when we had no idea what we were doing.

I respect the confidence of tackling a tile project with just YouTube videos. Did you at least get the old tiles off without destroying the wall? That's usually where things go sideways for me.
