My 9yo will hike like 8 miles in Crocs but the second I suggest actual hiking boots she acts like I'm trying to torture her. We were planning this trail up Mount Tamalpais next month but she's already threatening to 'go on strike.'
How do you guys get your kids to actually wear proper footwear? Or am I just overthinking this and Crocs are... fine?
Eight miles in Crocs though, that's honestly impressive. At least she's getting outside and moving. Better than the kids glued to screens.
Kid logic makes zero sense. My daughter will wear fuzzy slippers in the winter but refuses rain boots even though her feet get soaked. I've stopped fighting it and just let her learn the hard way now.
This made me laugh because I remember my dad forcing me into hiking boots as a kid and I hated them. Now I get why he cared about foot support and blister prevention. She might not care but at least you're trying.
Have you tried letting her pick out boots instead of choosing them? My 7yo suddenly decided she wanted these neon green ones and now she refuses to hike without them. Apparently choice matters more than comfort at that age.

The Crocs thing is hilarious. My son wears them to school and I genuinely don't care anymore. Life's too short to argue about footwear when they're getting exercise.
