Anyone else's kids refuse to hike without making it a "quest"?

My 8yo son will NOT go on a normal hiking trail anymore. It has to be a "quest to find the dragon's lair" or we're searching for "hidden treasure." Last weekend we did a 3-mile loop at a local park and I had to tell him there were "three checkpoints where guards would give him a secret stamp" (just printed some stuff at home lol). He was completely into it and didn't complain once about being tired. Is this just my kid or are other people dealing with this too? Tbh it's actually kind of genius even if it feels ridiculous.
