Planning a camping trip with the family next month and trying to figure out what to cook that isnt just hot dogs and beans. Want to impress everyone but nothing too complicated. Looking for stuff that travels well and doesnt need a ton of prep. What do you guys usually make?
Cast iron skillet is your friend out there. I do breakfast burritos in the morning and foil packet dinners at night - keeps cleanup minimal when you've got three kids running around. Beats hot dogs every time.
We love doing tacos at camp - set up a little station and let the kids build their own. Gets them excited about cooking and you look like a hero without much effort.
Try marinating some chicken or fish before you go and cook it over the fire. We always bring fresh veggies too since the camping meals are half about exploring new stuff with the family anyway.
Hot dogs and s'mores are the classics for a reason but we've done foil packet meals with ground beef and veggies that you just throw in the fire. Minimal cleanup.
We do a lot of chili and stew type stuff at campgrounds. Everything goes in one pot, minimal dishes, and it actually tastes better than it has any right to. Plus the kids think it's fancy.
Definitely do something the kids can help cook. That's half the fun of camping for them. We do build your own tacos which keeps everyone entertained and fed.
