We went for a walk and collected leaves, sticks, rocks, whatever. Let the kids glue them onto poster board to make scenes. My 5yo made an "insect city" and the 8yo did a landscape. Honestly looked cool, cost basically nothing, kept them occupied for hours, and didn't destroy the house. Pinning this idea for next weekend.

Did you have to set any rules about what counts as a good 'find'? Asking because my 6yo tried to collect every rock and we'd still be on that walk
This is way better than the Pinterest-style craft projects because THEY designed it and it actually means something to them. Plus you got them outside without it being about forcing them to like hiking. Sneaky good parenting

This is such a vibe. My kids are obsessed with their 'found object creations' now. We have a literal shelf of this stuff. Your 5yo's insect city sounds incredible though - that's peak creativity right there
