Attempting to hike with 4 year old - what am I missing
Planning to take my son on a moderate 3 mile trail next weekend and I want to make sure I'm not missing anything. I've got a decent backpack for him when he gets tired, snacks, water, and a first aid kit. He's got good shoes but gets bored easily so I'm thinking of bringing a small field guide to look at birds or bugs on the way. Any tips from guys who've done this with littles? Should I expect to turn back early or does anyone have tricks to keep them engaged?
Pack way more water than the distance suggests. Four year olds dehydrate quick and get cranky even quicker. Also consider one of those child carrier backpacks just in case he hits a wall halfway through. Better to have it and not need it.
