Backpacking trip - first time with kids
We're doing our first real backpacking trip with my boys (11 and 14) this summer in Yosemite. Everyone's excited but I'm secretly freaked out about logistics - how much weight is too much for them to carry, what food is easiest to cook on a camp stove, bear canisters, all of it. We've done day hikes but overnight backpacking is different. Any veterans have tips for making this less stressful? Or honest takes on whether this is a good idea with 11yo?
Get headlamps for everyone and actually test them before you leave. Nothing kills the vibe like losing daylight and realizing a headlamp battery is dead. Also brings the magic back for older kids hiking at dusk.
