We just moved here and I'm looking for stuff to do with the kids (7 and 10) on weekends that won't completely drain the bank. We've hit the zoo a few times already. Looking for DIY stuff, outdoor stuff, anything really. What are your go-tos? Are there good parks or trails nearby that aren't super crowded?
Your post got cut off but definitely keep asking! Portland is actually pretty solid for budget activities. Just avoid anything downtown on weekends if you value your wallet lol
Powell's Books is free to walk around and the kids section is huge. My 7yo spends like 45 mins just browsing. Coffee shop inside so you can actually relax.
Depends what part of Portland metro you're in - are you closer to the west side or east side? Makes a big difference for park recommendations
Laurelhurst Park has a free spray park in summer that my kids lose their minds over. No admission, just bring a towel.
Forest Park is amazing and totally free - miles of trails right in the city. My kids are similar ages and we do the Wildwood Trail loop pretty regularly. Pack a picnic and you're golden.
We do a lot of free nature hikes at places like Oxbow Regional Park. Swimming hole in summer, exploration year-round. Parking is cheap ($5) and kids burn energy for hours.

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) has some discounted hours on certain days. Not free but way cheaper than the zoo and my 10yo was entertained for hours in the physics exhibit.
