We're planning a family trip to Denver next month and I want to do some actual hiking with my 4yo and 6yo, but nothing too crazy. Looking for something with a good payoff (waterfall, view, something cool) that won't destroy us. Anyone local have recommendations? Preferably something we can do without a 4am start.
Bear Lake Trail near Grand Lake is perfect for that age range. Like 1.4 miles, super easy, and you get an alpine lake at the end. your 4yo might need a break halfway but it's doable
how much hiking experience do your kids have? if they're not used to it I'd start with something like a 2-mile loop before doing 4+ miles. altitude hits different with little kids
Check out Rocky Mountain National Park stuff specifically. They have like a dozen kid-friendly trails and the views are legitimately insane. Gateway is good if you want something really mellow
Bring SO much water and snacks. Like more than you think you need. My 5yo hit a wall halfway through a "easy" trail because he was hungry and we barely made it back
to join the conversation.
Sky Pond is beautiful but honestly too much for a 4yo. Emerald Lake is way better - easier grade, shorter, and the payoff is solid
