He FINALLY took off the training wheels last month and I wasn't sure it was gonna happen honestly. We spent like 8 weekends in the parking lot behind our elementary school just going in circles. Yesterday he rode a full two blocks without falling and I felt like he just won the Olympics lol. Small wins but they feel huge right now.
8 weekends is NOT excessive for learning to ride bikes. That's dedication. A lot of people just stick the kid on a bike and hope for the best. Your son's lucky.
Did you guys use the trick where you hold the back of the seat and run alongside? That's what finally worked for us when our training wheels came off.
This is so wholesome. The Olympics comparison is accurate - that's a HUGE milestone and it takes patience like what you're describing. Mad respect for putting in those 8 weekends.
Now the real fun begins - he's gonna want to go everywhere on that bike lol. We gave our 6yo the green light and suddenly our driveway is too boring, he wants to bike to the park, the store, etc. Gotta watch that.
The parking lot behind the elementary school is such a good spot for this. We did the same thing with our daughter and eventually she just... got it. One day she was falling and the next day she wasn't.
