Bike trail recommendations near Denver?

Looking for some intermediate trails good for a 9yo and 11yo who are getting comfortable on their mountain bikes. We've done Bear Creek Trail but want something a bit more challenging. South Platte area? Bear Mountain? Anyone have a go-to spot they take their kids? Preferably something with water or shade because August in Colorado is brutal.
