Building a treehouse in the backyard - anyone done this before?

My kids have been bugging me for months. I've got decent wood working skills and a level backyard with an old oak tree that seems sturdy enough. Safety is obviously the main thing here. Has anyone built one that didn't result in a trip to the ER? Looking for tips on platform height, railing requirements, all that stuff. Don't wanna be that dad but also don't wanna be that dad

Dude yes. Treehouse is legendary. My kids still talk about the one I built. Make sure you get the right tree and really check the branches. I had an arborist look at mine to make sure it was safe. Worth the money.

I did one when my oldest was 7. Safety first though. Get the structure really solid and I mean really solid. I spent extra time on the supports because one of my fears was something happening. Used bolts, not nails. Your kids are going to love it.

If you've got the woodworking skills you're golden. Just go slow and safety check everything twice. Those projects take way longer than you think but they're absolutely worth it.
