Building a treehouse with my 6 year old this summer

Got some scrap wood from a job site and we're planning to build something small in the oak tree in the backyard. Mostly just want him to help out and learn some basic tools. Any safety tips I should know about or design ideas? Thinking pretty simple, just a small platform maybe 8 feet up.
