Building a treehouse with my 6yo and I have no idea what I'm doing

So I promised my son a treehouse last summer and here we are in spring finally starting it. I watched like 3 YouTube videos and bought a bunch of wood from Home Depot. My dad keeps texting me safety concerns which is NOT helping. We got the platform frame up yesterday and my son thinks I'm basically a construction genius now. The real test is this weekend when I have to figure out the railings without my kid losing a finger. Anyone else start projects they're wildly unqualified for just to see that look on their kid's face?

YouTube University strikes again. The good news is that at 6 years old your son will think anything you build is the coolest thing ever, even if it's a little wonky. Safety first though - make sure whatever you're building is actually stable. Kids have no fear.

I respect the commitment to follow through on that promise even if it's been a year. Do you at least have a tree that's not too massive? And are you building this solo or do you have some help? The pandemic taught me that some projects are way better with another set of hands.

The YouTube rabbit hole for treehouse building is deep but honestly some of those creators really know their stuff. I'd maybe invest in some proper hardware though instead of just nailing stuff together. Your son is gonna want to spend a lot of time up there.
