Building a treehouse with my 7yo - tips?

So I promised my son we'd build a treehouse in our backyard and now I'm in over my head. I've got some lumber and I'm trying to plan it out but I've never really done this before. Anyone have experience? Should I be worried about safety? How high is too high? Trying to make this actually happen this spring.
