Built a deck with my 10yo and he actually helped

Spent last weekend building a 12x12 deck with my son watching youtube videos beforehand so he knew what to expect. Didn't think he'd actually contribute but he was drilling holes, sanding boards, getting dirty. Now he keeps asking when we can build the next one. Worth every penny spent on decent safety gear and kid-sized tools. Best weekend I've had in years.

A 12x12 deck is legit. The fact that your son watched videos beforehand and was ready to help shows you're doing something right. I'm jealous, my kids just want to watch me work and complain about being bored.

This right here is what it's all about. Getting them involved in actual building projects teaches them so much more than screen time ever will. YouTube prep is genius too, he felt like he actually knew what was going on.

Did he actually use any tools or was it more moral support? Either way this is the kind of memory he'll remember when he's older.
