Camping trip disaster averted

Was supposed to go tent camping with the boys at a state park about 2 hours away. Got everything packed, loaded up the car, drove out there. Get to the site and realize I forgot the actual tent. Just the poles and stakes are in the car. Anyway, ended up at a KOA with cabins nearby and somehow it was better? The kids slept in real beds, we still did campfire and smores, and nobody was miserable. Lessons learned: make a checklist before packing, and sometimes Plan B works out fine.

Story time. I need to know what the disaster was before you avoided it. Were we talking weather, car trouble, someone got sick? I'm paranoid about stuff like this happening on my trips.

What happened? I've had a few camping trips go sideways and it's stressful trying to pivot last minute with the kids. Did you end up rescheduling or finding something else to do instead?

Two hours is already a decent drive with kids so I feel the panic here. Glad you caught whatever it was before you were already out there with tents and everything. What was the issue?
