Camping trip disaster - need advice for next time

Took the boys camping for the first time this past weekend and let me tell you it did NOT go as planned. Forgot the camping stove, kids got eaten alive by mosquitoes, and it rained like crazy Saturday night. Everyone was miserable and we packed up early. Before I give up on camping though I want to try again with better prep. What are the essentials I actually need? Also any tips for keeping bugs off the kids?

Forgot the stove AND got eaten alive? That's a rough first camping trip but hey, at least you got the experience now. Next time will be way better once you figure out what you actually need.

This is going to be me in like two years. Making a note to buy bug spray by the gallon and double-check all camping gear. Thanks for the heads up on what not to forget.

Oh man, the camping stove is rough. We learned the hard way with our girls that you gotta triple-check the gear list before you leave. The mosquitoes part though, that's just camping with kids.
