Took the boys camping last weekend and it rained the entire time. Like sideways rain. My oldest got sick, we forgot half our stuff at home, and I ran out of propane on day 2. We packed it in after one night. I feel like I failed at being a dad but my 5yo said it was still fun because we played cards in the tent. Not sure if he means it or if I'm just bad at this.
Man, that's rough. Rain, sickness, and forgetting gear - that's like the camping trip trifecta of disaster. But hey, at least you tried and the kids will probably remember the adventure anyway.

The worst camping trips make the best stories. My kids were miserable in the moment but now it's like their favorite memory to bring up.
This is exactly why I stick to day trips lol. But seriously, how did the boys handle it? Sometimes kids are way more resilient about this stuff than we expect.
Did you end up cutting it short or just powering through? I feel like there's a point where you gotta admit defeat and head home with your dignity.
