Took my two kids (5 and 7) camping for the first time last weekend. First night was rough, kid couldn't sleep in the tent, I forgot half the cooking supplies, and it rained. But somehow by day two we were having the best time. They caught their first fish, we made a fort out of branches, no screens in sight. Definitely doing this again. Worth every second of stress getting ready.
First camping trip is rough, man, that's totally normal. My kids still need like three bedtime stories before they'll settle down anywhere new. Sounds like you're doing better than you think - you got out there and tried.
Dude, forgetting stuff happens to the best of us. The fact that you took both kids out there solo and pushed through the rough first night? That's a win in my book. Next trip will be smoother, I promise.
First camping trip with young kids is always chaos but that's part of the fun. Sounds like you're doing the outdoor thing which is awesome. How'd the second night go? Sometimes they just need one rough night to get used to it.
I'd call that a success if everyone came home alive and the kids actually slept at some point. My first camping trip with mine was rough too but they keep asking to go back which tells you something.
