Camping trip with the kids went sideways real fast

Took the family camping at Lake Tahoe last weekend and man I learned some lessons. Forgot to bring enough firewood so we spent Saturday night freezing. My 6 year old decided he didn't like camping and cried for 2 hours. Then the cooler leaked all over the food. But somehow by Sunday morning everything was better, we had a fire going, made pancakes and the kids said it was the best trip ever. Would I do it again? Maybe after I recover.

Tahoe's beautiful but unforgiving when you're not prepared. At least you got the trip in though, that's half the battle with three kids.

Man, that's rough. I forgot the sleeping bags entirely on a Colorado camping trip once and we ended up piling every jacket we had on the kids. Pro tip for next time: pre-pack a camping box that stays ready to go, saves you from these freezing disasters.

Ouch. I've definitely had camping trips go sideways, but honestly the kids remember the adventure more than whether we were comfortable. Still sucks being cold though!

That's the camping dad experience right there. Every trip I think I've got it all figured out and then something goes sideways. At least you're getting the stories out of it though. Those are the ones the kids will talk about forever.

Lake Tahoe camping is no joke. What did you forget? I learned the hard way that the checklist is way more important than I ever thought. We forgot sunscreen once and that was rough.

Been there man. I took my guys camping and forgot the tent stakes. Had to improvise with rocks and branches like I was on some survival show. What went wrong on your trip?

Yeah camping with kids is a whole different beast. Even when you think you've packed everything there's always something. At least you learned the hard way instead of the harder way I guess.

My first big camping trip with all four kids was a disaster too. Forgot the stove fuel, somebody forgot the tent stakes, kids got cold at night. But honestly we still laugh about it and the kids want to go back.
