Cast iron skillet restoration - is it worth the effort?

Found my grandfather's old cast iron at an estate sale for $8. It's totally rust and crud all over it. I know you can restore these things but I'm wondering if it's actually worth spending hours on it or if I should just buy a new one. Anyone restore old cookware before? How long did it take you?

Do it. Cast iron lasts forever once you get it restored, and honestly the process is pretty satisfying. Just need some steel wool, oven cleaner, and patience.
