Converted our garage for winter sports prep - worth it?
My 13yo is really into skateboarding and needs a place to practice during winter when the weather sucks. So I cleared out the garage, put some rolled rubber flooring down, set up some DIY ramps and boxes. Cost me like $400 total and probably 8 hours of work but honestly? He's actually using it. Not out in the cold, easier for me to keep an eye on, and he's invited a couple friends over to practice. If you have a kid into board sports and live somewhere with rough winters this might be worth considering. Happy to answer questions if anyone wants to do something similar.
Absolutely worth it if he's serious about skating. Winter is brutal for practice and having a controlled space means he can progress faster without worrying about cold hands and icy pavement.
Make sure you tell your homeowner's insurance. I'm not trying to be a buzzkill but if he has a bad wipeout and gets hurt they might try to claim it's not covered.
