Deck staining project FAILED

Spent all day Saturday prepping and staining the back deck. Looked great when I went to bed. Woke up Sunday to find it rained overnight and basically ruined everything. Now I gotta sand it all down again and start over. Checked the weather like 5 times that day too, somehow missed the storm. So frustrating. Any tips for making sure this doesn't happen next time?
